The art of marquetry applied to skateboarding

At Merlin Skateboards, we explore different ways to enhance the value of wood through handcrafted skateboards. Among these approaches, marquetry occupies a unique place: it allows us to blend traditional craftsmanship and skate culture in a resolutely creative approach.

This technique involves hand-assembling thin wood veneers—maple, walnut, elm, bamboo, etc.—to form graphic, abstract, or organic patterns. No printing, no painting: everything is embedded in the raw, natural material.

Marquetry is one of the most sensitive expressions of our workshop. Each board is crafted as a unique piece, designed slowly and precisely, with a logic of artistic craftsmanship. This process gives rise to creations with strong aesthetic value, without ever forgetting the identity of skateboarding.

Whether it's meant to be rolled up or used to decorate a wall, an inlaid board carries a story, an intention, a hand. It embodies our desire to offer durable, unique objects rooted in a responsible approach to manufacturing.

At Merlin, marquetry is no exception: it is one of the ways to explore wood with rigor and freedom.

Between ride and design, boards that make sense

At Merlin Skateboards, all our boards are carefully crafted, whether they're for riding or decorating. Some are designed to provide a smooth, responsive, and durable riding experience; others are designed as artistic pieces, to hang, display, or simply admire.

Decorative models meet the same high standards as those designed for practical use. Every detail is meticulously crafted, each wood species selected for its natural beauty. These boards tell a story, driven by rare expertise.

Our functional boards, on the other hand, are designed to offer an optimal balance between performance and style. Thanks to a mastered structure and the selection of quality wood, they provide a natural, flexible and responsive gliding sensation.

By exhibiting or riding a Merlin board, you're choosing more than just an object: you're affirming a link between craftsmanship and skate culture, between aesthetics and practice. It's this intersection of use and contemplation that makes each board a creation in its own right.
